January 13th

It was so nice to see all of your children after our extended break.  Div. 11 has had a good first week back!  We have been busy doing New Resolutions, working on our Winter theme, and today we started our Canada unit.  Reminders...

*Your child will be bringing home a winter poem they need to practice for our Reader's Workshop, most of the students should already have these in their planners but the last groups will be Friday and Monday. On Tuesday they will start to present these to the class.

*Black Excellence Day tomorrow - wear black

·  Black Excellence Day was created by Ninandotoo Society and takes place on January 14th, 2022, but will normally be January 15th each year.

·  January 15th is in honour of the great civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was born January 15, 1929.

·  The Black Excellence Day event will discuss the contributions of Black Canadians and their ongoing civil rights struggle, which often goes unacknowledged in our school curriculum.

·  The term 'Black Excellence' was born out of the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

*We have just started our Canada unit.  Each child will be a 'Great Canadian' (more information about this to come soon) for now if you could start to collect some pictures of your child at different ages as we are asking them each to make a special poster.

Covid Information...  There are lots of questions about when students should be coming to school and how long they should be away, this is the CDC document and links that were sent out by our district.

It is ‘if you have COVID’ this part but they are saying to assume as much if they haven’t been tested and to follow the 10 days of isolation because he is not fully vaccinated. If he can get a test to find out he’s not and he isn’t isolating because someone is positive, he can come back when symptoms are gone or improved. Ideally the district is saying don’t come if you’re sick. They can to the assessment tool, it’s really descriptive.
Generally, from the day of onset, 10 days isolation before they can return because assume it’s COVID. That is my understanding at least.
Please be sure to let the school know if your child is going to be absent.  Thanks so much.  Hopefully this fourth wave will be a quick one!
