My daughter solved my problem of airdrop so here are the creative habitats!  I've shown these to my family as I am very impressed and proud of their work!

April 29th, 2022

It seems impossible that it is already the end of April!  We've had another busy week.

We have been finishing up our Canada unit.  Over the past few months we did an animal research project with Mrs. Holmes in the library (these will be added to their memory books) and yesterday we created habitats for the Canadian animal that we studied. Students worked with their partner to design these habitats.  I was very impressed with how creative they were.  Please ask your child what they have learned about their animal and have them describe their habitat.  I had hoped to add some pictures but it's not letting me airdrop:(

We also finished painting our Ted Harrison art projects.  The final product turned out well, I'll post a picture next week once everyone is done!

During forest fun on Tuesday we learned a lot about Fairview's forest, despite the crazy weather! We had a very knowledgeable guide show us the different varieties of trees and shared some interesting facts about the flora and fauna at Fairview as well as what caused hail and what to do if there is a lightning storm.

Spelling next week is a review of the past 6 weeks.  We will be complete this lesson over two weeks to give the students a chance to practise their words more.  As I mentioned last week these are difficult phonetic patterns,  practise and memorization is needed.  Remember to check out Spelling City, the link is under Useful Links.

We are now presenting our Environment books for Reader's Workshop, please have your child practise reading the book with the post-it daily if possible.  I realize that the spring is a hectic time with sports etc. but I have noticed that they are not reading these books at home.  They need to read and work on their fluency and expression to make it more interesting and informative for their audience.  During these last few months of school we still want to focus on developing and strengthening our skills.

April 22/22

Happy Earth Day!  On Wednesday we had a special presentation from the BC Lions, stressing the importance of reducing electricity and water and everyone doing their part to help take care of our fragile earth.  Div. 11 had lots of good ideas to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.   The students really enjoyed our art project today, and all did a great job as you can see!

Plesase help your child practice their reader's workshop book (the one with the post-it).  They should be reading these as often as possible to prepare them as they will be presenting to the class next week.

Thanks to the PAC for organizing our yummy hot lunch today.

Just a reminder to checkout  Spelling City to reinforce the difficult phonetic patterns we have been studying in spelling.  Many of the students especially the blue group have been struggling with these challenging words.  We have one more week and then our last week Lesson 12 will be a review for the last six weeks.

After Spring Break we made a change to our book bags, instead of levelled books we have started our Mystery Bags! These are a collection of books that are high interest books, a variety of genres and levels.  Some of these books you may need to read to your child.***Please let me know if you'd still like to have some leveled books  as well as their mystery bags.

Reminder:  Next Wednesday, April 27th is class photo day.

Div. 11 really are amazing artists!

April 14/22

It's been an Easter kind of week!

Div. 11 created these pastel bunnies last Friday, didn't they do a great job!

In the forest on Tuesday I was very impressed with the children's creativity!  Look at all the different Easter eggs they made using natural resources they found on the forest floor.

The students also really enjoyed making their sock bunnies which they will be bringing home today.    In the poetry book you'll notice we have some student authors!!  Good work Callum, Emily and Maahi!

***Just a reminder about the link to Spelling City on the Useful Links on this blog.  This week was especially hard for our blue group as they had to learn when to use ir, er, ur all these sound the same:(! Unfortunately English can be very challenging  and some words just have to be memorized but there are games on Spelling City that might help them learn and remember the correct spelling. You'll need to go to the link, go to the lesson and colour that we are working on but it would also be great to practice past weeks.

I have given each of the children a package of therapuddy, explaining to the children that it is not food and should be opened at home with parent permission.

Div. 11 is very well represented in Cross Country club which happens every Tuesday and Thursday.  Just a reminder that I am one of the coaches so if your child is participating and you are running late to pick up on those days I will be taking your child to the office for pick-up.

Hope you all have an amazing long Easter weekend with family!  Our first normal Easter in a couple of years but stay safe unfortunately Covid is still around:(

Div. 11's News/Reminders/Thank You's...

*Scholastic book order forms came home today.  Thanks so much to Cooper's mom for organizing these for us.

*Please remember to send an extra coat or sweater as the weather and temperature is constantly changing throughout the day.  Plus, I still keep the door and window open to allow for better air circulation and ventilation.

*Please pay $15.00 for Memory Book/virtual field trips on the parent portal or send in cash asap.  Thanks.

*Please send in headphones/ear buds in a ziplock bag labelled with your child's name.

*Cross Country permission forms went home this week with students who were interested.  Practices are Tuesday and Thursday after school and I am one of the coaches so I will need to leave the classroom right after the bell.  If your child is not picked up on time on those days I will be sending them to the office so that they have a safe place to wait until you arrive.

*Easter long weekend is next week already!  We will continue to do spelling these next two weeks even though they are short weeks.  So next week our quiz will be on Thursday, April 14 and the following week we will start our lesson on the Tuesday and the quiz will be like usual on the Friday.

*Exciting times in the forest on Thursday.  The children found a green egg which we have since learned is a stellar jay's egg and another group was busy building a bridge.  Div. 11 is also very excited that Mrs. Holmes is raising chicks in the library so they will be learning a lot about eggs and chicks.

*Please see information below for anyone who is interested in participating in Fairview's yearbook cover contest
