Sept. 24th, 2021

Division 11 continues to settle in and build our classroom community.  I am really enjoying getting to know your children better and am excited for what the year holds.

Reminders and Updates for this week are...

*Tomorrow is our Terry Fox Run! Students are encouraged to wear Tie Dye for Terry (if they have anything). Also donations can be made online to Fairview's Fundraising Page:  http://www.terryfox.ca/FairviewElementaryMapleRidge

*We have added Terry Fox poems and math this week. Please complete the math over the weekend before returning on Monday.  Thanks for your support!

*Please complete the parent portal release forms (walking, media, yearbook, etc.) also submit $7.00 for planners either on the parent portal or by sending in cash (in a labelled ziplock).  Also if possible could you please send in headphones/ear buds that your child can use in the class as we use iPads for a station at both Reader's Workshop and Math. Please label these with your child's name.  Thanks.

*At one of our 'Reader's Workshop' stations we have been discussing reading strategies.  (As I have told your children, I still use some of these strategies, even as an experienced reader who loves to read).  We are making a special book mark to keep at school as a reference but I am also sending home a black and white 1/2 sheet with the 'Catch Phrases' we are using such as 'Eagle Eye' and 'Stretchy Snake'.  Please keep these as a reference at home.  A couple groups have already brought them home and they can be found in the 'secret' plastic pouch in the front of your child's planner.  The remainder of students will bring them home next week.

*As mentioned in my first letter, masks are really encouraged.  So far many of the students are wearing them regularly.  Thank you for the support with this, I really appreciate your assistance with this.

*Unfortunately during a pandemic it is difficult to connect with parents in the same ways we have in the past.  Please feel free to come over at the end of the day to say hi and introduce yourself and if you have any questions or concerns, we can make an appointment.  Of course I can always be reached via email.

Next week will be a short but busy week... Please mark your calendars!

September 16/21

Division 11 has had a busy week.  I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all of your children and they have made great progress in learning all the new routines.

You'll notice that your child has brought home their Poetry & More Books today.  Please read the letter in this duotang explaining how this works, read over our first songs and also help your child complete the special math sheet 'Numbers about Me' before returning it on Monday morning. This is their homework for the weekend. Thanks for your support with this.

Name Boggle!  For this special literacy activity we use the special helper of the day's names and try to make as many words as possible from their names. Some of you may have already received a large piece of paper with your child's name on it, if you could please try as a family to find more words that would be great.  If you look for rhyming words that helps and is great practice. Then send it back for your child to share with the class.  Then I will keep these for their memory books.

* Thank you so much for promptly sending in all the school supplies.

* Just a reminder that both the purple verification form and the purple Getting Acquainted form should be completed and returned a.s.a.p.

* Inside shoes are needed especially as the rainy weather arrives.  Please also submit $7.00 for planners either on the parent portal or by sending in cash (in a labelled ziplock).  Also if possible could you please send in headphones/ear buds that your child can use in the class as we use iPads for a station at both Reader's Workshop and Math. Please label these with your child's name.  Thanks.

*Remember our outside door and windows are open so please send another layer of clothing to make sure they are warm enough.
