October 29/21

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! It has been an exciting and busy week in Div. 11.  We are playing a variety of math Halloween games;  practicing our addition, subtraction, identifying odd/even numbers, doubles and place value skills. We did a Smartie graph, the student's were surprised that not all boxes had the same number of smarties.  Plus tomorrow they will be bringing home their dancing 'Math' jack-o-lantern, which you can put up for Halloween!

Thank you to Akua, Kayden, Maahi, Janine, Landon N.'s families for providing our snacks and treats for our Halloween celebration.  As mentioned before costumes can be worn tomorrow.  Our Thriller Dance will be outside after recess as it looks like the weather is clearing tonight.

The class enjoyed our virtual field Halloween Yoga trip and are looking forward to Aldor Acres Pumpkin Patch tomorrow (also a virtual zoom activity).

Reminders:

In the Poetry and More duotangs this week there will be both a Handwashing word search and a Subtraction Math game.  I am hoping that everyone has an opportunity to do both of these this weekend.

Please send in headphones/ear buds if you haven't already done so.

Art Cards - Please return these, even if you do not wish to order as we will add these to our Memory Books.  Important: If you do wish to place an order, please write it on the back of the art and include payment or if ordering online, please write your Order Reference Code in the pink box at the bottom of the art card.  If there is nothing written on the back of the art card I will assume you are not placing an order so it will go into your child's memory book.  All art cards should be returned on/before November 5th.  To ensure delivery for Christmas, late orders can not be accepted.

Please continue to practice your child's Reader's Workshop books.  We have just started our class presentations and the students are doing a great job of reading their books in front of their classmates.

Monday, Nov. 1 is Pajama Day.

***Next week please limit your child's treats to 1-2 Treats in their lunches and please no lollipops.

Every Friday at Fairview is Spirit Day - wear blue and yellow!

Nov. 12 - Non-instructional day (no school)

Hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween weekend!

October 21/21

Halloween is next week!  As mentioned we will have only pre-packaged individual treats for our celebration.   (Please send enough for the whole class 20 in total).   Below are the people who are responsible for our Halloween celebration.  PLEASE SEND IN BY WEDNESDAY, OCT. 27TH

1) Akua - Chips     2) Janine - Fruit Snacks/Gummies      3) Matthew - Treats (Chocolate or candy)

4)  Kayden - Juice Boxes 5) Landon N - Rice Krispy Squares (store purchased only)/Bear Paws/Packaged Cookies etc

Costumes can be worn to school on Friday, Oct. 29th but should be easy to take off and on as they still will be going outside at recess and lunch and I wouldn't want their costumes to get ruined.        A letter about costumes was sent out from our district on the parent portal please read that carefully as we want Halloween to be a fun and safe event.

Art Cards went home on Wednesday.  Please return the art card, even if you do not wish to order as we will add these to our Memory Books.  Important:  If you do wish to place an order, please write it on the back of the art and include payment or if ordering online, please write your Order Reference Code in the pink box at the bottom of the art card.  If there is nothing written on the back of the art card, I will assume you are not placing and order and your child will cut/glue the art onto construction paper.  All art cards should be returned on/before November 5th.  We will not be able to accept late orders as the school will be sending them in right away to ensure delivery in time for Christmas.

We invited a Coast Salish artist to visit us via Zoom on Wednesday. We learned and drew the 4 basic shapes and then listened to the artist book and drew our own crows using these shapes.  The event was a big success!  Next week we will be joining in for a virtual Halloween yoga (for kids) and a virtual pumpkin patch visit.  We are trying to bring the outside in being we are not able to participate in these events in person at this time.   Your children seem to be really enjoying these opportunities.

Could you please send in headphones or earbuds.  They are needed for Reader's Workshop and we'll also soon be using the iPads for a math station as well.  Thanks to those who sent them in this past week.

Reader's Workshop books with a post-it on the front should have come home this week or by next Monday.  Please practice these with your child but return the books daily as they will also be using them in class.  Thanks for your support with this as they will be presenting these books to the class.

Scholastic went home on Tuesday.  Thanks to Kenzie and her family for preparing these flyers.

Hygiene word search will be coming home soon as an additional home work project.  Hand washing is so important that we thought it was a good activity to reinforce this and also bring up some important discussions for you at home.

October 15/21

Thank you to Kenzie and Cooper's moms for volunteering to do our Scholastic orders this year.  All orders are online, please include our class code when you are placing the order and that way we get some free books for the classroom.  You will be receiving your first flyer next week.  Books will be shipped directly to your homes.

Could you please send in headphones or earbuds.  They are needed for Reader's Workshop and we'll also soon be using the iPads for a math station as well.

Starting next week you will start to notice a Reader's Workshop book with a post-it on the front coming home.  Please practice with your child but return the books daily as they will also be using them in class.  Thanks for your support with this as they will be presenting these books to the class.

Also anyone that hasn't please return their child's I'm Thankful turkey for their memory books.

Halloween is soon approaching.  For our class holiday celebrations this year and following health and safety guidelines, we thought the safest way would be to assign each of you one holiday and for you to bring pre-packaged individual items (enough for the whole class 20 in total).   To assign your item/party,  I just went down the class list and gave each family a number.

October 7/21

It has been a busy but productive week as we head into this Thanksgiving weekend.

Thank you to everyone who has already supported Fairview's annual Food Drive.  If you'd still like to donate please send non-perishable items in the morning as they are picking up at 9:00 a.m.

Your child brought home their magnet turkey today and also their writing of what they are thankful for.  They should share this with you and their family but then if possible please return to school on Tuesday so that we can put them in their memory books.  Thanks.

***For those students that are away I have put together the turkey craft with instructions, plus other Thanksgiving work they missed this week.  You are welcome to come to the school to pick up or they can bring it home when they return.

Div. 11 finally finished them special name tags!   Don't they look awesome - they worked very hard on these.

Below is Fairview's 'Bricks of Belonging' that I mentioned last week, for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Each student wrote on a brick, situations that make them feel they belong and experiences that make them feel important.

Volunteer Needed:  If anyone is willing to prepare our Scholastic catalogues please let me know.  Once a month or so you'd need to label a class set of flyers with our class code that is needed for online ordering

Thank you to everyone for ensuring your child has a mask (or several).  The children are doing a great job of learning to wear them correctly and wearing them regularly.  I think we all feel a little safer.

Reminders as several families still need to:

1) pay online or send in $7.00 for a planner

2) do the parent consent forms on line

3)send in headphones to be used in the class.

Next week I will be explaining our Classroom Celebration schedule as Halloween will soon be here.

I hope you all have a wonderful long Thanksgiving weekend.  Travel safe and enjoy this special family time.

SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER Tomorrow at 12:00!
